salt water

I love the way that light influences the mood of a room.

Last weekend Travis and I along with his best friend Adam and his sweet-as-can-be girlfriend Mary spent a few days on the Eastern Shore. Travis’s dad grew up fishing, hunting and playing sports along the bay, and it is always fun to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa Masters along the water.

I think that these photos embody the warmth of their hospitality more than a portrait could. Their home is filled with antique finds, knick-knacks, and an exorbitant amount of delicious home cooking. There are huge windows that look out over the marsh and the bay. During the cooler summer days, a strong breeze fills the house with that salt and marsh smell.

I didn’t realize until recently that I have been drawn to the sea. After growing up landlocked in Amishville, PA I took off first to Santa Barbara, next to the North Shore, and now Annapolis. The background on my computer is a photo of the ocean with this quote, “The cure for anything is salt water. Sweat, tears, or the ocean.” (isak dinesen)
